Now, it's no secret that I hated my curls. I never treated them right, I hid most of them away, and I hated my friends with perfect hair. So, I knew something had to change! Here's my journey...

My Sinful Past

What did I do that was so horrific?

First of all, I used naughty products that dried out my hair. In fact, here's my biggest confession. I only used one product. That's right, I used a leave in and NO CONDITIONER in the shower. Why? I just couldn't be ARSED!

In the shower, I would wet my hair, comb through with a wide-tooth comb (which you can imagine caused ultimate breakage), and then dry with a towel.

Post shower, I would run John Frieda Dream Curls Conditioner (which has silicones and drying alcohols) through my hair, then pull the top half back and go.

That's it. That was my routine. And I did this EVERY SINGLE DAY. Yes, I washed my hair EVERY DAY, with NO EXCEPTIONS. Which is why my laziness led me to looking into the Curly Girl method!

My Hopeful Future

My first step was to get some conditioner. I picked out Garnier Ultimate Blends Almond Crush Conditioner and got to work. I started using this in every shower, and immediately noticed how moisturised my hair looked! I also started to comb my hair with the conditioner still in it, which stopped breakage. To dry, I swapped the towel for an old t-shirt, to minimise frizz.

It took me a while to pick out my perfect products, but I am finally there!

Now, I run minimal amounts of Cantu Moisturising Curl Activator Cream through my locks and brush with a Goody brush, to make sure the cream spreads all over my hair. Then, I get to finger coiling! If I have time, I will do this layer-by-layer, coiling every single curl, but if I have somewhere to be, I do only the top layer, as this needs more help.

Then, I use Cantu Define and Shine Custard for hold, but again, only minimal amounts, as this product is known for leaving white flakes if you use too much.

Next, I get to work with the diffuser, starting with my ends and then working my way up to the roots.

And the biggest change? I sleep on a satin pillowcase with my hair in a pineapple, and I wake up with curls that are ready to face the day, with no need for a rewash! Some curls do need a little help in the morning, so I spray with a little water, and re-coil, using a teeny tiny bit of Cantu Moisturising Curl Activator Cream on my fingers.

In addition to this, I got a haircut! I chopped off my dead ends, added some layers, and FINALLY got some shape around my face!

So what's the verdict? Well, I went from this...

... to this!

What changes did you make?
